A great deal: in 2025 a Bali hotel room earned about IDR 2.4 million (≈ USD 147) a night in July against about IDR 783,000 (≈ USD 48) in February, roughly a threefold swing. The operators that last hold back high-season profit to carry the quiet months and budget for the whole year, not the peak. Information only.
How big is the swing, in practice?
The figures above are RevPAR — revenue per available room, meaning the average a room earns each night once empty nights are counted. For a ten-room property, that is roughly IDR 24 million a night of room revenue in July against about IDR 7.8 million in February. Wages, power and upkeep do not fall by two-thirds in February. Illustrative — not financial advice.
What is the one question to ask?
How many slow months can the business carry without touching the profit made in the busy ones? If the honest answer is none, the business is one soft quarter away from forced decisions — cutting staff, cutting prices or looking for emergency cash.
What should you do with high-season profit?
Keep it. Treat busy-season profit as the fund that carries the quiet months, rather than spending it as it arrives. A simple rule: set aside enough in July to cover the costs you already know are coming in February. Illustrative — not financial advice.
Should you discount to fill the empty months?
Usually not across the board. Discounting trains guests to wait for the deal and drags your average rate down all year. A quiet, profitable month beats a busy, cheap one.
Use conditions instead of cutting the price for everyone: early booking, longer stays or payment upfront. See revenue management for small hotels.
So what should the budget be built on?
The whole year. A record July is not the baseline. Price and spend for twelve months, including the weakest ones. For the full-year benchmarks, see how Bali hotels performed in 2025.
